Most of the dozen or so books my wife Joules and I have written deal with subjects either currently or formerly regarded as paranormal. The occult is literally the 'hidden' and mankind seems to be biologically programmed to investigate the unknown - this primal urge is the rocket fuel of evolution (for better or for worse), and we simply call it curiosity. What we discover may be boring and mundane, or it may be explosively exciting - we won't know until we find it.
There is certainly an element of peril along the way, and intuition is often our best guide, so the journey is guaranteed to be challenging. Happily, seasoned explorers usually agree that travel is a supremely rewarding venture, not least because we meet people whose interests lie in the same direction as ours. Such clusters of like-minded companions, friends even, sometimes get a name for themselves...
The Bristol Society for Paranormal Research and Investigation has a broad vision and a good reputation, and offers a valuable hands-on approach to studying (and frequently experiencing paranormal phenomena). It might be an exaggeration to call the group a beacon in the gloom of the great unknown, or an oasis in the desert of man's ignorance, but then again, for many of the people that are attracted to it, that's exactly what BSPRI is. And long may it continue to be so!
